DoTalk — Real-Time Communication & Social App

Situation

The project needed to provide real-time messaging across different client technologies while integrating translation and external communication services. Key challenges included:

• Supporting web and native Android/iOS clients.
• Synchronizing real-time communication across platforms.
• Integrating an XMPP-based real-time messaging infrastructure.
• Integrating live translation services.
• Integrating external communication APIs.

Task

Build a cross-platform real-time communication and social application capable of supporting instant messaging across web and native mobile clients, with integrated live translation functionality for users communicating across languages. The project required coordination across web, Android, iOS, and real-time backend technologies while maintaining a consistent communication experience across platforms.

Solution

Designed and coordinated a real-time messaging architecture using OpenFire/XMPP as the communication foundation, combined with Laravel/PHP and Java backend components and native Android/iOS clients. The solution integrated:

• OpenFire XMPP.
• Real-time messaging.
• Translation services.
• Twilio APIs.
• REST/backend services.
