Layered System — Telecom Communication Log Management
Middle Software Engineer @ HTK-INC
Situation
The project required a maintainable architecture for handling telecom communication log management within an enterprise Java environment. The initial architectural challenge was particularly important because the first module needed to demonstrate that the development team could produce:
- Clear separation of responsibilities.
- Maintainable application structure.
- Reusable components.
- Consistent Spring MVC implementation.
- A design that could be reviewed and accepted by the client.
- A foundation that could be extended into additional modules.
Task
Develop a structured web application for managing and organizing telecom communication logs, providing a maintainable system for client stakeholders and internal business users to track and manage communication records. A key objective was also to establish a clean, standardized application architecture that could be reviewed and accepted by the client.
Solution
Designed and developed a standardized Spring MVC layered architecture with clear separation between presentation, business, and data-access responsibilities. The core structure followed:
Controller → Service → DAO / Repository → Hibernate / Database
The first module was developed as an architectural reference implementation for client review. The design emphasized:
- Separation of concerns.
- Clear layer boundaries.
- Reusable components.
- Consistent implementation patterns.
- Maintainability.
- Extensibility for future modules.
Contribution
I was responsible for designing and developing the initial standardized module architecture and implementing the web application functionality using Spring MVC. I:
- Designed the initial layered module structure.
- Established Controller, Service, and DAO/Repository boundaries.
- Implemented Spring MVC backend modules.
- Developed Hibernate-based persistence functionality.
- Integrated backend services with frontend views.
- Applied separation-of-concerns principles.
- Created reusable implementation patterns for subsequent development.
- Prepared the architecture for client review.
- Made technical architecture decisions for the module.
- Guided the modular design layout within the development team.
- Supported the system on a part-time basis.
Technologies
- Languages: Java
- Frameworks / Libraries: Spring MVC, Hibernate ORM
- Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Database / Storage: MongoDB
- Cloud / Infrastructure: AWS, Linux
- DevOps / Source Control: Git
- Architecture / Design: MVC, Layered Architecture, Separation of Concerns, DAO / Repository Pattern
Results
- Delivered the initial standardized Spring MVC layered module.
- Established clear Controller, Service, and DAO/Repository boundaries.
- Produced a reusable and maintainable architectural pattern.
- Delivered a modular codebase aligned with enterprise Java practices.
- Met client expectations during the initial architectural evaluation.
- Helped establish client confidence in the team’s technical approach.
- Contributed to continuation of the longer-term contract.
