Stylios Online Shopping — B2C E-Commerce

Junior Software Engineer @ HTK-INC

Situation

Traditional shopping processes needed to be supported through an accessible web-based platform. From an engineering perspective, the project also required onboarding a junior engineer into a large, real-world Java web application with established architecture, coding standards, and development practices. Key challenges included:

  • Understanding a large existing enterprise web application.
  • Moving from academic programming practices to production-oriented engineering.
  • Learning and applying Spring MVC.
  • Understanding layered application architecture.
  • Following strict Java coding conventions.
  • Integrating backend modules with frontend views.
  • Working effectively within an established development team.

Task

Build core functionality for a B2C online shopping platform, enabling customers to browse products and perform online shopping activities through a web application. The project also provided a transition from academic software development into a structured enterprise Java development environment.

Solution

Contributed to a standard Spring MVC Java web application, developing foundational backend functionality and integrating it with web views. The primary delivered module was the Authentication (Auth) module, covering:

  • User login.
  • User registration.
  • Session management.
  • Backend authentication flow.
  • Frontend authentication views.
  • Spring MVC request/response flow.
  • Separation between application layers.

Contribution

I joined the project as a Junior Software Engineer and focused on learning the existing architecture while delivering assigned functionality according to established engineering standards. I:

  • Read and analyzed the existing codebase.
  • Reviewed project documentation.
  • Studied the Spring MVC application lifecycle.
  • Learned the project’s layered architecture.
  • Followed established Java coding conventions.
  • Developed backend authentication functionality.
  • Integrated backend logic with frontend views.
  • Implemented login and registration functionality.
  • Worked with session management.
  • Followed mentor guidance and established implementation patterns.
  • Provided later part-time support for the system.

Technologies

  • Languages: Java
  • Frameworks / Libraries: Spring MVC, Hibernate
  • Frontend: Bootstrap, HTML, CSS
  • Database / Storage: MongoDB
  • Cloud / Infrastructure: AWS, Linux
  • DevOps / Source Control: Git

Results

  • Successfully delivered the Authentication (Auth) module.
  • Implemented user login and registration functionality.
  • Implemented session-management functionality.
  • Integrated Spring MVC backend functionality with Bootstrap-based frontend views.
  • Developed according to the project’s Java coding standards.
  • Successfully transitioned from academic development to real-world enterprise software engineering practices.
  • Provided later part-time support for the application.
